Why do I like real estate? What attracts me about real estate?
I have been asked these questions multiple times. The truth is that when I became interested in real estate, I found a voice that went beyond what I knew until then. What motivates this journey goes above the intention of becoming financially independent, but rather a journey towards personal development and a mindset shift.
My first networking event was nerve-racking, describing my goals was uncomfortable, having to introduce myself did not feel natural. Despite that, I felt drawn to this entrepreneurial environment. There was a part of me that was trying to come out but that until now did not have the chance to be expressed.
As time went by networking events became more manageable and I was able to talk about myself. I was able to interact with people in a new field where I was a complete newbie.
But the important question is: what changed between the first events and the most recent ones?
The answer is simple: My MINDSET.
I became more confident in myself and my capabilities. I learned, developed a new set of skills, while growing and evolving my proficiencies. In other words, I believed in myself more than I had ever before.
The thing is that we are what we believe we are. Sound fairly simple, right? The truth is that in the practice it can become a little more confusing.
We have preconceived notions of who we are. They have been developed over the years, shaped by our parents, family, friends, society, and our beliefs. We become those notions, but that is not the entire self.
Practicing and cultivating a mindset shift is a step towards evolving, which applies to every aspect of our lives. There are so many limiting beliefs that we imposed on ourselves that dictate our day to day lives.
In my case, the only job I ever had was as a physician, so stepping into the unknown realm of real estate was out of my element and comfort zone. My subconscious mind kept saying that was not good in business and that I was only a physician pretending to be what I was not.
Cultivating an expansive mindset involves intentional efforts to shift your thinking patterns and embracing a more open, positive, and growth-oriented perspective.
Embracing an Abundance Mindset and Setting Clear Goals in Real Estate
During this time, I have embraced an Abundance Mindset: Focusing on possibilities rather than limitations, believing that there are so many opportunities out there. Every time I see a medical professional succeeding in the real estate world, I feel happy for that person, I celebrate achievements and successes of others.
Setting and having clear goals has also increased my level of confidence. I have framed them as short-, intermediate- and long-term goals. I recently started revising them regularly to give more motivation.
Getting to know the language in real estate took some time, as well as holding a conversation where I felt knowledgeable enough. I took time to learn and explore the field, taking courses, going to networking events and reading books. I expanded and continuously expanding my knowledge in the same way I did when I started in medicine. Furthermore, I evaluated which areas could be my forte. This is a marathon not a sprint, takes time and patience.
Embracing Neuroplasticity and Cultivating a Growth Mindset
Monitoring the internal dialogue and replacing negative thoughts with positive affirmations is crucial in this process. Once again, resetting the mindset and utilizing neuroplasticity to our advantage. Neuroplasticity is the ability for the brain to adapt or change over time, by creating new neurons and building new networks. Resetting our mindset is essentially utilizing the power of neuroplasticity into creating new neuronal pathways and connections to stir away from negative thought, creating and new believe system.
Over time this new path will foster a belief in the ability to overcome challenges and acknowledge the strengths and achievements. It has helped me reframe my achievements in medicine to say that I have accomplish new goals in a new field, in my case is real estate.
There has been a transformation in the way I see the world around me. Years ago, this concept of mindset shift was very foreign. Over time I have develop a growth mindset. Embracing the idea that abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work; failures are more than that, they are opportunities to learn and improve. The fact that I could not put myself out there is those first meetings did not deter me from pursuing this. I realize that it was matter of time and practice. I stayed open-minded about the entire process
Maintain a long-term perspective, understanding that success often involves overcoming obstacles. Rome was not made in one day, but every step gets me closer to my goals.
One tool that has become very pivotal is the integration of gratitude. Regularly express gratitude for the positive aspects of my life, with the most basic aspects like my health to the ability to change. When I started practicing gratitude a whole new world opened in front of my eyes. Suddenly I started to live in a more abundant space, because I was/am programming my mind to see the opportunities, living in a space of possibilities rather than a space of scarcity. At first, I thought that this was just wishful thinking, but this was far from the truth. Living in and with gratitude has opened my doors. Even writing this article is an opportunity that came before me rather unexpectedly, and for which I am grateful.
Other ways to enhance neuroplasticity include visualizing success. Creating a mental image of the desire outcome, which reinforces positive beliefs. This will help create new neuronal pathways and make the goals more tangible.
Since the people around us are so influential. I became more involved with people in the real estate world, who tend to have a positive mentality and who support and inspire my aspirations. People who believe that dreams are reality and propel my growth.
This venture into a new facet of my career was not taken lightly. I have been planning for this, taking calculated risks, and stepping out of my comfort zone. Focusing on the challenges and looking for a solution.
Cultivating an expansive mindset is an ongoing process that involves conscious effort and self-reflection. It takes time and it evolves over time. My priorities a year ago are not necessarily the same ones as today. As I continue to grow, new opportunities arise, and I can see the path more clearly. One thing is for sure, had I not started this change in mindset I would not be here. It has been rewarding, full of new experiences and even setbacks.
I started real estate with one objective in mind, however it has taken a whole new perspective and that is not just about buildings and equity. It is about how to accomplish those goals, how to be engaged in the process. It has taken the shape of reshaping my mindset and my way of looking at the world.
Consistently practicing these strategies has “remodeled” my thinking patterns and contribute to a more positive and growth-oriented mindset over time. Are you ready to reshape your mindset?
